Presentation tomorrow

So tomorrow I will give my presentation. I will show a powerpoint, then I will show two speeches and I will explain Civil Religion to my class.

Politicians go against the COnstitution

Politicians usually mention God in their speeches, however, they are going against the Establishment Clause int he First Amendment and the Free Exercise Clause. These acts seem not harmful but they are the foundation of our country and they are going against it.

I have been thinking about using the speeches given by president Obama and President Bush as examples on how presidents use civi religion in the ubic square even if our Constitution sas its wrong

Civil religion in Congress

Dont' you think that Senators usually mention God when they do something that is policy related. As an example, during the Health Care debate, some senators have called Universsal health care a necessity and have even used religion to back their postions on health care

Bellah's Civil Religion

I think that presidents have used the term of civil religion to attract voters. The health care debate has epitomized what civil religion is, and also the way religion helps legislation get passed.

Health Care Bill passed

In order to get support from the Catholics, House Democrats had to ban the help of using the money for abortion or for pills. That is an example where religion and politics play a role

Bellah's Civil religion

In Robert Bellah's paper that MS. Bowles gave us, it mentioned that there were three major periods when civil religion was tested, do you think we are still being tested?
