HOOS For Herzlich

Mark Herzlich, a linebacker for Boston College, and the ACC Defensive player of the year, had wrapped up his most successful carreer last fall. Herzlich, who led the Eagles with 110 tackles, six interceptions, eight pass break-ups, two forced fumbles and two fumble recoveries had wide eyes for a bright future. However, in May of last year, Mark Herzlich ws diagnosed with Ewing Sarcoma, a malignant tumor most often found in bone or soft tissue. We should help him

Barack Obama's use of Civil religion his inauguration speech

During his inauguration speech President Barack Obama mentioned a lot of topics that Civil Religion is meant to have, such as the hope of a better future and the use of power to achieve justice. In his speech, he mentioned God many times, perhaps to appeal to his listeners and to also make them believe that he is religious. Civil religion in my opinion played an important role in his inauguration because he showed to the world that he belives in God. This action is mainly to appeal to the moderates who do not trust non-believers.

Barack Obama's civil religion

President Obama has used civil religion in order to persuade the moderates and the religious right that he is not an unbeliever. I guess that this political move comes after John McCain failed to get a grip of the Evangelicals in the Republican primary in 2000 against Bush. He is wise

Sabores

During the performance of the students in the auditorium, I had a flashback about an event that really changed my life in this country. It was in the early stages of my time in this country, I heard the voice of Governor Arnold Schawarzenneger speak about the problem about Mexicans in this country, he said: "Mexicans have a problem, they do not understand the way Americans live" and said that he refused to get into the sustem. Then, I remembered how insulted I felt with those words. I remembering ho not every immigrant had the smae opportunities he has, not all have the same body he did and not all are helped by the US President to get a position. I believe he is wrong and those words really hurt me

President Barack Obama's use of civil religion

The President has been using civil religion as a way to appeal to voters and to citizens. The biggest example of this is at the early stages of the health care debate, h called on religious leaders to support his plan. I believe that he is a smart politician, but he might offend a part of our population. When a politician tries to win an election, he must look like a religious person, I am not saying that they are not, but perhaps I assume that not all of them tell the truth and just want to win. DO you think politicians try to appeal to the public?

kid burnt in Florida

My prayers to the family of Michael Brewer, they are going under a shock of having their son burned. My prayers with the families of the kids who burnt him, they are not suffering from the aggression of one of their own, but are suffering from the actions their children committed. In days like these I try to blame someone and to point the finger to all the people I know, I blame the parents for not teaching Brewer to pay back 10 dollars, I blame the parents of the 4 kids who burnt him, I blame the school system that does not teach our kids to behave better and my heart is full of hatred and rage. I am so blinded by the rage within me that sometimes I cannot even logically think. And then I try to find compassion. Comapssion for the people I dont understand, sometimes it doesn't work so well. I remember as a young newly arrived immigrant to this country I listened Dr, King's speech in 2005. He asked from us to give compassion, to represent compassion and to at least pretend compassion, it would heal us more than blame. An I think we are all tired of blaming each other. We are tired to know that our children are not safe, that the streets are not safe places and that our efforts to make them safe are not working. Blame is not the solution, blame will tear down our anilities to change this nation. Blame will breed more violence and we have had enough of that. Blame will not eradicate crime from our streets nor change the minds of our kids. Blame will not chage our school system and give us hope. Blame will rob us from those things and we have had enough of that. That's why I am asking you to dig down with me inside your hearts and we will work together and slowly, too slowly we will walk together and work together. And things will get better. The time is now.

Religion and Politics

In my Religion and Politics class, we have talked a plethora about how civil religion affects the decisions taken by citizens, I think might write the EDIS paper on this very controversial topic. Given my background in this topic and with far more research I think I can manage to write a paper.

Civil Religion

According to Robert Bellah, there is sort of a civil religion in this country based on justice and our judeo-christian principles. I think that this topic can definitely be adhered on my essay. I also think that the entanglement between religion and politic is huge and I might decide to write this paper on this topic.

EDIS Paper

I was looking through the paper and I found that I could write about civil religion and the way some presidents have tried to use it. As an example I will use the way Abraham Lincoln mentioned God at the height of the Civil War to maintain a Union. This can be my status quo. Then Ronald and GWB as the counterargument that you do not need civil religion in order to gain elections. FInally, I can use the example of Obama as a president who is using religious rhetoric to attract voters. I do not know how much you guys are in politics, but he usually saud "I am my brothers keeper and my sisters keeper" this is such a Biblical quote I searched for un a book by a Vermont University Professor who has analyzed his rhetoric. Furthermore, I think that civil religion based in our Judeo-Chrsitian foundation plays a huge role in our society, even if we do not think about it, we do it.

EDIS Essay

I was thinking about the EDIS essay, and I think I have my topic. Perhaps, how outdated the Constitution is, maybe the 2nd amendment and how Roe. Wade has split the country in two.
